American gymnast Jade Carey won her first Olympic medal in her final competition in Tokyo. Tokyo Games.
A 21-year-old from Arizona came back from a terrifying fall in Saturday’s vault competition to win the gold in the floor exercise with scores of 14.366. It is the fifth medal won by this year’s U.S. women’s gymnastics team in Tokyo despite superstar Simone Biles sitting out four finals in order to concentrate in her health.

A day before she took home the gold medal, Carey was unable to successfully land one of her vaults during the final event for women’s gymnastics. She ran 11.933 as well as 12.900 to end the event in eighth position however her partner Mykayla Skinner took home the silver.

Carey was initially disqualified in the overall finals where gymnasts compete in the four events, including vault, uneven bars as well as balance beam. She also competes in the floor, however she was able to return to replace Simone Biles who decided she could not compete anymore.

Carey was able to finish the all-around final in floor which is one of her specialties she earned an 13.966 for a high-flying performance.
Prior to her entry into the floor exercise finals, Carey had to qualify and advanced with the third highest score on the field.
