A dog with a scar, eyes that are distorted and deformed and lips missing fur patches might not sound like a winning combination but a 2-year-old puppy named Peanut (who has all those characteristics and more — was named the World’s Most Ugly dog on Friday during the Sonoma-Marin fair’s contest at Petaluma, California.The little pooch is believed to be a Chihuahua and Shih-tzu mix, experienced a difficult start to his life.

The dog, thought to be a Chihuahua/Shih-Tzu mix and a very rough beginning to his life. He was severely burned when as a puppy and spent over nine months in the animal clinic prior to his adoption by Holly Chandler of Greenville, North Carolina, adopted the dog.
“We’re trying to use him as a poster child for what can happen to animals who are abused,” Chandler said to The Associated Press. She also revealed that she plans to use the prize money to pay for the vet bills of other animals.
Peanut was picked by the TODAY readers to be the winner of the contest, receiving almost 36,000 votes from the 76,643 people who had provided a response before the time of press. The closest competition in the eyes of readers of TODAY were concerned was a Chinese-Crested-Chihuahua mix known as Sweepee who got 16,000 votes.
A Chinese Crested breed, which tends to be rough with scattered areas of fur, frequently gets at the Ugliest Dog competition. 9 Chinese Crested dog breeds have been crowned winners of this contest over the last 12 years.
