Naomi Judd autopsy confirms singer was killed by suicide. Family requests respect for privacy
A postmortem examination for Naomi Judd confirmed Friday that the country star passed away through suicide, as Juddd’s family previously announced.
The Grammy-winning performer, one half of mother-daughter duo the Judds, passed away on April 30 at the age of 76. Judd’s two daughters Wynonna and Ashley posted her passing on social media the same day.
“Today we sisters were witness to an unimaginable loss. We lost our mother to the illness that is mental health,” The sisters posted on Twitter. “We are broken. We’re dealing with a profound loss and we know that just we loved her as much as much, she was loved by her fans.”

In an open letter, the family of Juddd requested prayers as well as thoughts and wishes for people suffering from mental illness, as well as their loved ones.
“We have always shared with each other our joys and sorrows as a a part of a family and its sorrows as well. The story we tell is that our mother was plagued by an unjust enemy,” said Judd’s family comprising the siblings and Naomi Juddd’s spouse Larry Strickland. “The autopsy and toxicology results are exactly as we would have expected. The patient was diagnosed with PTSD and bipolar disorder that millions Americans are able to relate. We continue to grieve the loss. We value privacy and respect while we, as family and the widower mourn.”
Juddd’s daughter Ashley has previously shared details about her mother’s demise during an interview Diane Sawyer on ABC’s “Good Morning America” which aired on the 12th of May.
Ashley Judd said mother Naomi “used the gun,” which the autopsy confirmed.
“That’s the part of information we’re very reluctant to share, but we recognize it’s a situation in which should we not speak up the way we would like, somebody else is likely do,” she said.
The actress also stated that she was with her mother the next day and was the person she “discovered the actress.”
“Sister and Pop were my spokesman in specific methods to represent the family members at this point in time before the information about the 30th of April turn publicly available (‘a aspect of gossip industry’) and are out of our reach — whether it’s an autopsy or the precise manner the deceased died. This is why we’re doing this, because otherwise it’s way too late,” she told Sawyer.
Ashley 54, and Wynonna and Wynonna, both 58, have spoken out in the wake of their mother’s passing about their grief process and would like to see the public give the time needed to recover.
In the month of August in August, in August, the Judd family filed a court motion in order to stop the release of documents relating to Naomi Juddd’s passing. “Our dear mother and our beloved wife passed away due in the midst of a mental health crisis. Following the tragedy the family has been trying to grieve in a group, with our friends and family, and most importantly, in the peace that anyone who loses a loved one is entitled to,” they said.
